Twenty-nine visual artists joined Outstanding Women Leaders (OWL) of Baguio in an art exhibit for a cause in partnership with Pasa-Kalye Group of Artists at DTI OTOP Hub last Monday, March 8, 2021.
The exhibit titled Babae sa Pandemya was the first collaborative project of OWL and Pasa-Kalye attended by several officers led by OWL president Emerita Fuerte. She was joined by Teacher Glo Leal and Maria Victoria Bugasto. Another attendee was Pasa-Kalye artists’ constant benefactor businesswoman Marybeth Yu So.
The event was organized by the 2020 batch of leaders consisting of 8 awardees. Pasa-Kalye president Maricar Docyogen said there are “A total of 51 artworks are on exhibit depicting the different roles of women in a community especially during the pandemic.”
Leading the artists are Roland Bay-an and Buddy Cabrera. Aside from the paintings, there are textile and leather arts among the exhibitted pieces. Docyogen said “proceeds of the exhibit will go to OWL and Pasa-Kalye programs.”
Docyogen said “with the current protocols, the exhibit was primarily online with only few allowed to attend.” “But the artworks can be physically viewed at DTI OTOP at Upper Session Road until the end of March.”
Since OWL was established in 2006, there were exactly 100 women leaders awarded as of 2020. This year’s nominations for outstanding leaders were done on February 25 and currently under deliberation by the board of judges. Winners will be announced March 29 at the Baguio City Hall. They will be awarded at the Baguio City Hall Garden in a solemn ceremony.
OWL president Fuerte said “this year’s awardees will also include last year’s 8 awardees who didn’t enjoy the welcome party because of the pandemic.”
